Commander’s Comments

As of this writing, Jerry and Diane Hinton, Vern and Sherry Terbl, Lori Brouillette, Serene Halley, and myself and Dorothy (although she was sick most of the time) are at the VFW National Convention in Pittsburgh. It was a typical convention with the exception of the changes to the Constitution and Bylaws. There was a lot of discussion on the floor about the section concerning the Ladies Auxiliary. Basically. the motion changed the name from Ladies Auxiliary VFW to VFW Auxiliary and allows spouses and eligible male relatives to join the Auxiliary. This change becomes effective on Aug 21st. I will discuss these changes in more detail at our Aug meeting.

We have been approached by Texoma Internet concerning installation and transmission of a Wi-Fi tower near the water system. I was initially in contact with the company concerning the erection of a tower and the lease. I asked about lease rental and was not successful in obtaining an appropriate answer. When I received the lease agreement there was no mention of monetary compensation. At this point I believe that a committee concerning the situation be formed. I will be working on the formation of the committee.

At our July meeting, a motion was approved to allow MAUX to pursue a grant from Lowe’s to facilitate in upgrading the camp ground.

I want to thank Senior Vice Commander Comrade Buddy Priest for assuming control of the post while I was at the convention. See you at the August meeting.

Chaplain’s Comments

The side show has begun. The politicians are running for the most powerful office in the world… President of the United States. May God help us pick the correct person to assume this office. I am reminded of Solomon, who was picked by King David, to serve Israel. He asked God not for riches or power, but knowledge and compassion. God was so impressed with him, that he granted him knowledge. (Read 1 Kings of the Bible.) He ultimately gave in to human desires and feelings as an old man.

This United States of America needs a Solomon and not a King. Again, may God help us, if He knows who we are as a people. Please Pray For Our Nation. God blesses everyone…..may He bless you more. Should you need to reach me my phone no. is 903-814-8058.

Ladies Auxiliary President’s Comments

Thanks everyone who helped with the meeting last month while I was at National Convention. I have a lot of information to share with you at the August meeting regarding amendments to our bylaws and new resolutions that were passed. Great job ladies getting the road sign picked up and installed. Thanks also to the men who helped with the sign. Way to go Priscilla McMurry for receiving the Patriotic Instructor of the year award for the entire state of Texas! Rightly so, you did an amazing job with the Memorial Day crosses and everyone really enjoyed the July 4th golf cart parade. Our auxiliary received a plaque for Best Patients Day Out for our Division for hosting the veteran patients from the Bonham VA. This year Patient’s Day Out is scheduled for Oct 10th. We’re gearing up for the annual Labor of Love Event on Labor Day Weekend. We are asking for garage sale donations, live and silent auction items. We also have a storage unit now so we can take certain garage sale items in advance. Labor of Love t-shirt sponsorships are being sold at the post now. Please call 972-849-5697 regarding the garage sale or other Labor of Love inquiries. If you haven’t already, please pay your dues now to be entered into the raffle for a life membership. I greatly appreciate all of you ladies that continue to cook tacos every Wed night, and thanks everyone who signed up to cook on 3rd Saturdays. God Bless you all.
