Commander’s Comments

Each month, our post is required to conduct one or several functions which remember our fallen military members, the ends of conflicts, and other items of remembrance. The functions are usually held at 5:30 PM on a given day as shown on our post calendar. They are usually informative and supply to us a brief account of history. I usually conduct the sessions, but often I call upon others to participate. I have asked Priscilla McMurray to assist me in the presentation of the information given. If you can afford the time, please come and join us in the sessions.

The post members, at our last meeting, voted to not allow the lot holders to continue to use our current water system. We are currently in negotiations with Monarch/Southwest Water Systems to supply water directly into our distribution lines. They will also be installing water meters on each lot that desires water.

Much was accomplished in the past month in the refurbishment of the campgrounds and other areas. The MAUX along with Lowe’s and post volunteers worked diligently on the project.
Have fun and enjoy your post!

More Military Laws
-Never share a fox hole with anyone braver than you.
-No Battle Plan ever survives contact with the enemy.
-The most dangerous thing in the Combat Zone is an officer with a map.
-The problem with taking the easy way out is that the enemy has already mined it.
-The Buddy System is essential to your survival; it gives the enemy somebody else to shoot at.
-Incoming fire has the right of way.
-If your advance is going well, you are walking into an ambush.
-If you really need an Officer in a hurry, take a nap.
-Don’t be conspicuous in the combat zone; if it doesn’t draw fire out of the combat zone, it draws Sergeants.
-Remember, when you jump out of a plane at 800 feet and your chute fails to open, you will hit the ground half way through The Lord’s Prayer.

God blesses everyone…..may He bless you more. Should you need to reach me my phone no. is 903-814-8058.

Auxiliary President’s Comments

Thanks everyone who attended our meeting in October. I still have state president pins and our Ways & Means lotto tickets for sale.  The pins cost $3 and are very nice—a black stallion with an American Flag. The Ways & Means tickets are 6 for $5 or $1 each. The drawing will take place at Mid-Winter Convention and prizes are a 40″ flat screen TV, 7″ Android Tablet, GPS, Digital Camera, and Walmart gift cards.  Please contact me if you would like to purchase pins or tickets.  I can be reached at 903-818-6902.  I need to have all of these sold by Nov 15th.

The dish sign up board for Thanksgiving Dinner is now up at the post.  Please sign up for what you would like to bring or donate. Our District 1 meeting will be held at Lake Dallas on Nov 8th.  Please try to attend this important meeting. Veteran’s Day is Nov 11th. Pottsboro High School will hold a program for all veterans that morning at 10am. That evening Priscilla McMurry will be serving a ham dinner to our veterans from 6-7pm. On Nov 14th, Bonham VA Patients will visit our post. We have lunch, play games and sit and talk with the patients. We need donations of regular and sugar-free desserts for the patients. They will be visiting from 9am-2pm. Nov 20th is Operation Welcome Home/Take A Soldier Fishing weekend. Military members from 4 different bases will be visiting our post. Please come out to the post to welcome them. Nov 21st is our meeting day at 11am and dinner that evening will be Brenda Jones’ delicious chicken and noodles.

The new Auxiliary by-law books are available for purchase for $8 and can be purchased on line on the VFW Store website.  If you have any information that needs to be included in the weekly email please let me know. Don’t forget to always support our Veterans.  That’s what we are here for. Hug a veteran and thank them for their service.
