Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year! The joyous season is upon us; time for remembering the reason that we celebrate Christmas. Time for celebrating the birth of our lord, Jesus. It is a time for being with our friends and families. It is a time for gift giving and vocalizing seasonal greetings with our families and friends here and around the nation. It is a time for rekindling friendships.

On Dec 7th we will be remembering that infamous day of 1941 when many lives were lost during the Japanese attacks on Pearl Harbor. Come to the post and join us in the remembrance.

Make plans to attend the annual Christmas party and dinner at the post. Tickets are on sale for the New Year’s Eve party.

Much has been accomplished in the past few months undoing the damage done by the flood. Much remains to be accomplished. We will need many volunteers to complete the task. Watch for dates in the future when we will again be working to spruce up the facility.
Once again, have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Chaplain’s Comments

The Holidays are here and we look forward to celebrating the birth of our Lord and the beginning of a new year and what it promises.

When I was a very young man and having doubts about my beliefs, an older man, who was a great influence in my life, told me to believe in God and his son Jesus Christ. It costs nothing and if it proves to be true, then you have gained everything and lost nothing. Then if it isn’t true, it costs you nothing. This was good advice and I took it and never looked back.

May God bless you and keep you all the days of your life…..Amen.

God blesses everyone…..may He bless you more. Should you need to reach me my phone no. is 903-814-8058.

Auxiliary President’s Comments

Thanks to everyone who attended November’s meeting.  We passed several important motions which included changing our name to Lake Texoma Auxiliary VFW 7873, spending funds to reconstruct our life member boards with the new name, donating Labor of Love funds, purchasing a new Christmas tree for the post and purchasing a raffle ticket to assist the Grayson County Shelter.

On Dec 7th Priscilla McMurry will have a program for National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.  Please come and support our veterans.

The Bonham VA Hospital Christmas Party is Dec 11th. We need cookie donations for this event by Dec 10th when we bag them at 2pm.

We have the Toys for Tots collection box out.  Deadline for donations is Dec 15th. The box will be picked up on Dec 16th at 2:30pm by the Marine Corps League. At that time a photo will be taken of us donating the toys to the League’s representative. Thank you MAUX for your generous donation toward the purchase of toys. If you would like to donate funds versus shopping for toys, please let me know as I will shop for you.

Dec 19th is our Christmas Party at the VFW.  Feel free to bring finger foods and snacks to share for the party. We’ll be playing the Chinese gift exchange game. The gift limit is $15. The men should bring gifts suitable for males and the women for females.

We are creating another picture frame for Post 7873 veteran members not pictured in the current frame. Serene Halley is collecting these pictures. The veteran should be in uniform in the picture and the picture should include the veteran’s name, branch of service, dates they served and where they served.

Thank you again MAUX for your Toys for Tots donation and also for your generous donations to both the Adopt-A-Family for Christmas program and the 2016 Easter Egg Hunt.

Please pay your dues. Dues will increase to $40 on Jan 1st.

Always remember our veterans for their sacrifices, the ones who returned and the ones who did not, and their families.
