Commander’s Comments

Several of our post and auxiliary members just returned from the VFW Mid-Winter Conference in Austin. The opening session was well received. Several keynote speakers to include the National and State Commanders, VA and legislative representatives, and Commissioner of the TX Gen Land Office provided valuable information regarding the VFW organization and veteran’s benefits. We received information from the cadre of program chairs and how we should be conducting our programs. We had the opportunity to network with our counterparts from other posts and districts. I will share the pertinent information with you at our upcoming meeting. We will be hosting the Dist 1 meeting at our post on Feb 21st. Volunteers are needed for this event. Please contact myself or Vern Terbl if you can assist. To honor our ladies who do so much for our post, we will host a Valentine’s Day Appreciation Dinner on Feb 13th at 6pm, followed by a Comedy Show at 8pm. Ladies, please RSVP for this steak dinner via the sign-up sheet at the post.

I want to thank all concerned for the help and condolences I have received over the past month. I am truly blessed to have so many friends to help me get through the loss of my dear wife, Dorothy. Please also remember our friends and neighbors who are recovering and rehabilitating. God bless all.

Chaplain’s Comments

Volunteering is a necessary function of our post and our post needs more volunteers. We need to be there for each other in many capacities. In this new year, please consider helping when asked to perform in some way. You can truly make a difference by becoming active in the post. Verse 1 Peter 4:10 in the Bible states, “As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace.”

God blesses everyone…..may He bless you more. Should you need to reach me, my no. is 903-814-8058.

Auxiliary President’s Comments

Thanks to everyone who attended last month’s meeting and those that filled in for our absent officers. Sadly, we draped the charter for Dorothy Phillips and our Past National President Lucille Suchina. Monica Thompson, Barbara DiGangi and Paralee Cassell would love to hear from friends. Contact me for their addresses if you’d like to send them a card.

We are currently in search of an Auxiliary Chaplain to take Monica’s place. Please contact me if you’re interested.

We passed several motions last month to include donating funds to the Operation Changing Lives Hero Walk in honor of all Veterans at Post 7873, and we presented that check to Dept at the Mid-Winter Convention last month. We approved our name change to VFW Auxiliary to Post 7873 Lake Texoma. We also approved spending funds for the purchase of new floor mats for the slab cantina and for table centerpieces for the upcoming Dist 1 meeting on Feb 21st.

At our next meeting I will share with you details of the Mid-Winter Conference I recently attended in Austin. One key item I need to bring to your attention now, specifically for annual members, annual members considering converting to a life member, and those considering joining as a life member, is that the life membership dues may increase next auxiliary year by DOUBLE the current fee. So now is the time to become a life member!

On Feb 7th at 1pm we’ll have a planning meeting to discuss preparations for the Feb 21st Dist 1 meeting we’re hosting at our post. If you can help with this event please attend this planning meeting. We’ll be needing baked goods for breakfast in the form of muffins, pastries, donuts, bread loaves, etc. The Keeters are preparing a large lunch including dessert for our guests and we need helpers to set up, serve and clean up.

Thank you members and friends who consistently volunteer to serve our veterans in honor of their sacrifices.
