Chaplain’s Comments

A grandmother asked her granddaughter, who was about to be on her way to church, if she had her Bible.  She said no she didn’t have it.  The grandmother told her to take her King James Version because it was what Paul reached from.  We know that the King James Bible had not been produced until long after Paul was dead.  What did the grandmother mean?  The harshest critics would laugh at her and call her uneducated.  I think the grandmother didn’t make herself real clear and probably should have said it has The Letters that Paul wrote to the different churches.  We are all quick to condone and criticize and attempt to prove that we are always right and everyone else is wrong and that we know everything pertaining to certain questions and what you are saying is stupid and does not apply.  There is a mental condition that may cause this and it is called Misanthropy…..look it up.  In the future, be patient and listen and do not be too quick to judge.  God blesses everyone…..may He bless you more.  Should you need me, I can be reached at 903-814-8058.

Auxiliary President’s Comments

It was great to see so many members in attendance at our April meeting! Congratulations to Kimberly Wilkins for winning the life membership. Several key motions were passed. Starting in June, the 3rd Saturday dinners will be the chef’s choice with a maximum of $150 to spend on food. We voted to make a donation to the Visions of Sugar Plums. We also voted to have the life membership drawing in the coming year. Sadly, we draped the charter for our sisters, Parelee Cassell and Jan Stoneback, who recently passed away. Jose Casado gave an update on the bricks that are available for purchase for the memorial being built by the flagpoles.

We held our annual officer nominations and elections. New officers for the 2016-2017 Auxiliary year are:
President – Diane Hinton
Sr. Vice – Julie Tarver
Jr. Vice – Clifine Fisher
Treasurer – Lori Brouillette
Conductress – Serene Halley
Chaplain – Amy Kurtin
Guard – Michael Beck
3-Year Trustee – Kim James
Secretary – Jose Casado

These members volunteered to take chairmanship positions as listed for the 2016-2017 Auxiliary year:
Americanism & Patriotic Instructor – Priscilla McMurry
Buddy Poppy – Jan Keeter
Hospital – Heather Mulkey
Youth & Scholarships – Debra Crouch
Legislative – Peggy Terrell
Sunshine – Jan Vogelsang

I thank all of you that volunteered to take an officer or chairmanship! We still need the following positions filled: Historian, Veterans & Family Support.  Our Dept Office will hold an Auxiliary training seminar in Austin, July 8 & 9, for anyone interested.  If you are new to a position, officer or chairman, don’t worry, you will get the help you need to learn your new role. Please let me know if you are interested in attending the training seminar. Please review the calendar on the other side of this newsletter for upcoming programs and events. There are several important programs this month, Loyalty Day, Victory over Europe and Memorial Day. Please show your support to our veterans and try to attend these programs. We need cooks! Please sign up to cook just one 3rd Saturday in the coming year. We also need cooks Wednesday taco nights. The meat is always prepared in advance, it’s just chopping the toppings and serving. The meals are our main source of income. Don’t forget why we are here and have this VFW Post and Auxiliary.

Memorial Bricks

Memorial Bricks are on sale and the cutoff date for sales is May 14th. Our current goal is 50 bricks and they are selling fast. Please note, a change with brick orders has been initiated by the Memorial committee. There will be no advance brick sales for those who are living.  We will however sell bricks that read ” In Honor Of ” for those who are living and may be placed with your multiple order. This was a unanimous decision as we felt this was to honor those who have passed and was the original purpose. Should you want to order a memorial brick please do so before May 14th. Barb Jackson, Jose Casado, Ernie and Tammy Cathey have brick order forms.
