Commander’s Comments

July went by so quickly and was such a very busy month with Officer training and National Convention.  The Fourth of July weekend was an awesome success and I would like to thank everyone that helped cooked the pig, and those that helped to set up and clean up. It’s volunteers like you that make everything flow so much easier.

Thanks everyone who helped in the overwhelming heat to lay the bricks in the memorial brick. You all did a great job and everyone is proud to see the names of loved ones memorialized on the bricks. This was a great idea and awesome success, thank you all again.

I would like to thank post and auxiliary members and their friends and families for their volunteer efforts at our post.

As you may have seen the flyer, we started a fundraiser, “purchase a drink for the post for $2”. We’re trying to raise funds to fix some facility issues in the post. So if you can, I’d greatly appreciate your help by purchasing a drink for the post on occasion when you’re at the bar buying one for yourself.

The District Meeting will be in Lewisville on the 28th. This meeting is for VFW Post members only as the Auxiliary District Meeting will be held separately this month on the 20th in Bonham. We also have a program, Operation Iraqi Freedom, to recognize on the 31st.

Also on the calendar you’ll see we have two awesome bands this month, TX BleuCatz and the Bullwinkles, plus a movie night. Come out and support your post by attending these events… the camaraderie is great and we always have a good time together.

On behalf of the VFW, heartfelt condolences go out to the Keeter family. Ed was a great man with a giving heart who will truly be missed by all.

Thank you for your continued support.

July was a very tough month. We lost a very important member and friend of our VFW family…..Ed Keeter. Ed was very active with the VFW up to his last days. I cannot tell you how much Ed meant to this Post but I can tell you he was a great member and a good friend and helped this Post whenever he could. Ed will be greatly missed by all. God blesses everyone…..may He bless you more.

Auxiliary President’s Comments

Thanks to all of you that took the time out of your busy schedules to attend the Auxiliary meeting.  It’s the only time we can all get together to get things done and that’s what we’re all about.

Sadly we had to drape the charter for another one of our sisters Betty Tiffany.  She passed away on July 8th. We installed two of our officers Kim James and Amy Kurtin. Two of our members received their 50-year Auxiliary pins, Jan Vogelsang and Marcy Harrelson. Wow! What an accomplishment ladies! We voted on our 2016-2017 standing motions. Debra Crouch, our Youth Chairman, put out a container for collecting school supply donations.  Please donate if you can and if you would like us to do the shopping for you please see Debra or myself.  Thanks to all of you that help out our local students.

I made copies of our 2016-2017 Auxiliary Program Book and passed them out. If you didn’t receive a copy and would like one please see me. The Program Book explains what each chairman has to accomplish over the next year. Take time to read the information and see if there’s something you would like to help with or if you have ideas that could help the chairmen. Let’s work together and make this a great Auxiliary year.

Please note–the minimum age to join the VFW Auxiliary changed from 16 to 14 yrs. old.

Our District 1 President, Pat Anderton, will be visiting us on Sep 17th during our meeting.  Please try to attend to show your support.

We still need Wed taco night cooks.  The meat is cooked in advanced. All that’s required is heating meat, chopping vegetables, setting out condiments and serving the tacos. Thank you Nancy Yantes, Brenda Jones and E.J. McMannaman for cooking the meat in advance and Jan Vogelsang who does all the grocery shopping. We only need four more 3rd Sat cooks for March, April, May and June. Remember it’s chef’s choice now so you can cook whatever you want. Please see me if you would like to cook in any of those months.

Remember volunteers are unpaid, not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless. Be sure to thank a veteran for his or her service.
