Commander’s Comments

I greatly appreciate all of the volunteers who have stepped up to cook and thank those who did a great job cleaning the kitchen and storage room.

The Blue Star Mothers, Kim James, Cindy Fossett and Gina Neal, were honored last month at the post at a special program conducted by Priscilla McMurry. These mothers have children who are veterans and I thank them for their service. Thanks to the mothers for sharing their stories and showing their pride in both their children and country.

We have three programs this month, Operation Enduring Freedom, Recognition of Women in the Military, and Statue of Liberty. Please try to attend these and all programs, it’s at the heart of what we do, it’s how we promote patriotism and show respect for our veterans and our country.

The Halloween party will be held on Sat, Oct 29th. This year we’re making it a toga party, so come dressed in a toga if you like or any other costume . Contest categories will be the same as last year, Best Karaoke, Best Lip Sync and Best Costume. There will be prizes and drink specials.

Thanks everyone for your continued support.

Chaplain’s Comments

Moses humor….
George W. Bush, in an airport lobby, noticed a man in a long flowing white robe with a long white beard and flowing white hair. The man had a staff in one hand and some stone tablets under the other arm. George W. approached the man and inquired “aren’t you Moses”? The man ignored George W. and stared at the ceiling. George W. tugged at the man’s sleeve and asked once again “aren’t you Moses”? The man finally responded in an irritated voice, “Yes I am”. George W. asked him why he was so uppity, and the man replied “The last time I spoke to a Bush I had to spend forty years in the desert”.

God blesses everyone…..may He bless you more. Should you need me, I can be reached at 903-814-8058.

Auxiliary President’s Comments

Thank you everyone that attended the meeting last month.  Present at the meeting was our District 1 President, Pat Anderton and District 1 Historian and 2 Yr Trustee Vicky Dickerson. Vicky is also the State Americanism & Patriotic Instructor Chairman.  Pat conducted the annual inspection of our auxiliary and found us to be healthy and operating in accordance with our by-laws.

We’ll be donating to the Visions of Sugar Plums, and they’re also looking for volunteers.  They need help with bagging lunches for children who need them.  They’re also needing books for all ages.  Contact Serene Halley if you can assist them or have books to donate. Jose Casado is asking for fundraising ideas to help our auxiliary. Please contact Jose if you have any ideas that can help grow our funds.

Mike Beck plans to set up a hunting trip for Veterans.  If you know a Veteran who would love to hunt, please contact Mike. This also applies to disabled veterans in wheelchairs. Anna Lee Locke filled in for Peggy Terrell for legislative reporting. She gave an outstanding report and reminded us to vote next month. Debra Crouch and Priscilla McMurry visited Pottsboro Elementary School and distributed patriotic coloring pages and instructions on pledging to the flag. Certificates were provided for students who say the pledge.

Thanks to Priscilla McMurry for the great programs she does for the post and the auxiliary.  Be sure and check the newsletter and read your weekly emails that Serene Halley sends out to see when our Chairmen have programs and come and support them.  The Chairmen spend a lot of time putting their programs together. Let’s support them.  If you’re not on the weekly list call me 903-818-6902 or Serene Halley 405-476-9741.  Or just text your name and email.  You don’t have to be a member to receive the weekly email or newsletter.

We’re collecting sweat suits for Bonham VA now through Nov 12th. There’s a collection box for them at the front door of the post. The Bonham VA patients will be visiting the post from 9am-2pm on Oct 8th.  They enjoy our company and look forward to the visit each year. Please come and join them. We need desserts and fruit to serve them with lunch.

On Oct 14th we’ll have a cake walk for the Adopt A Family at Christmas Program. We also need cakes and other desserts for this fundraiser. This is a local community program we’ve been supporting for several years to purchase gifts for a family in need. Thanks to Bruce Fisher for the lighting he installed above the Freedom Hall stage. We needed the additional light over the main table and podium we use for our meetings. Thanks to Barbara Jackson, Gary & Peggy Hicks, Jerry Hinton and Frank Manry for cleaning the kitchen and the storage room. It really looks great!

Always remember why our post exists. Remember your veterans and thank them as they have put their lives on the line to protect the freedoms that we enjoy.
