Commander’s Comments

November looks like it’s going to be a very busy month. On Fri, Nov 4th we have service members visiting our post as part of the Operation Welcome Home/Take A Soldier Fishing event. Come on down to the post in the evening to be part of the big welcome we give them. We’ll have burgers for them Fri night and the Legion will cook fish for them at our post on Sat night. This is open to the public for $10 a plate. We have the Bullwinkles Band for entertainment on Sat night. Let’s all come out and show our gratitude to these service members.

Our Thanksgiving Day dinner is at 1pm on Thu, Nov 24th. Please sign up to bring a dish. We are in need of turkeys and hams. All meat donated needs to be cooked prior to delivering it to the post. If you want to donate but not cook, no problem, we have cooks who will help. Please contact Barbara Jackson if you have any questions regarding the dinner.

I would like to thank all the volunteers that have been cooking on Friday nights and Sunday mornings. I’m looking for a crew that will cook one Sunday morning breakfast once a month.

We should be getting the internet tower installed at the top of the hill pretty soon. If you’re looking for a new internet service provider, this is a good deal with Texoma Internet. Contact me if you have any questions.

Thanks for your continued support.

Achievements Aren’t Everything…

People who measure their worth based on their achievements are foolish. This kind of success goes against everything God says and does. If we measure our worth by our achievements, then we will apply the same measure to those around us. There are many people sitting in church who feel that they “have arrived”, which can be seen in the way they treat others. These people don’t understand Jesus. Believers who can see through GOD’s eyes find it easy to love as God loves.

God blesses everyone…..may He bless you more. Should you need me, I can be reached at 903-814-8058.

Auxiliary President’s Comments

Thanks to those that attended our monthly meeting.  Thanks to Alisa Powell for being Guard and Steve Fisher for being a Trustee. Sadly we draped our Charter for Sister Bonnie Wilde.

Our Welcome Home Warriors will be arriving on November 4th.  Please come and show your support to all the Troops that will be here.  We’ll be cooking for them on Friday and need desserts for this night. The American Legion will be cooking for them on Saturday. Both dinners will be held at our post.

We voted to have our Toys for Tots dinner on Nov 12th.  Peggy Hicks and crew have volunteered to cook pulled pork and sides for $10.00 a plate. In lieu of paying $10 a plate you can bring a valued at $10 or more.  Help our children have a great Christmas. We voted to change the time of our 3rd Saturday dinners to start at 6pm versus 6:30pm. This is now in effect starting this month. Peggy Hicks will be having a silent auction with baskets to support our Auxiliary.  If you would like to donate items for this or a basket see Peggy Hicks.

We are still collecting sweats for our Bonham VA Patients until Nov 12th.  There’s a collection box at the post for the sweats. Thanks everyone who has donated sweats so far.  Cash donations for sweats are encouraged if you want to donate but can’t shop. Let me know and I will do the shopping for you.

We had a cake walk to raise funds for the Adopt a Family program for Christmas. This program makes Christmas special for local families needing assistance. We purchase gifts for the children of our adopted family.  If you would like to donate to this great cause please let me know.  Jeanine Abate, Serene Halley and I go shopping the Friday after Thanksgiving and purchase clothing, shoes, and toys that are on the list of the family we adopt through The Resale Barn who oversees this program. Thanks to the post and everyone else who has donated so far to help make Christmas special for a local family in need.

Be sure and read your weekly emails for upcoming programs and come out and support them.  The chairmen for these programs work hard putting these programs together. If you’re not on the email list for weekly announcements let Serene Halley know or myself so we can add you to the list. Thank you Serene Halley for doing this every week.

District Meeting is in West Tawakoni on Nov 13th.  Please come if you can.  If you need a ride let me know.

No tacos will be served on Wed, Nov 23rd, the night before Thanksgiving. Our Thanksgiving Dinner will be held on Thu, Nov 24th at 1pm. If you would like to help or donate to the dinner please contact Barbara Jackson.  Thank you Barbara for taking the lead on this. If you’re attending the dinner please bring a dish. There is a sign up board at the post.

Thanks to everyone who helped with Frontier Days and with the Bonham VA Patients who visited last month.

BE PROUD OF OUR PAST AND COMMITTED TO OUR FUTURE! This Veteran’s Day and every day…thank a veteran for their service!
